Please print and complete the Audition Candidate Information form and bring it with you to your live audition appointment.
Placement in our orchestras is based primarily on skill level rather than age or years of experience.
» Philharmonic Orchestra: The Flower Mound Philharmonic Orchestra is an educational organization and has an associated tuition fee of $350.00 per year. Tuition may be paid all at once in advance or in two payments due in September and January. Regular rehearsals are held on Tuesday evening, and concerts are usually on Tuesday evening.
Philharmonic Orchestra: (4 – 7 years of experience on their instrument) The performing level should be intermediate to advanced. String candidates for the Philharmonic Orchestra must have experience playing in the 3rd – 5th positions. » Preparatory Orchestra: The Preparatory Orchestra is currently suspended and under restructure. No members are being accepted.
» Symphony Orchestra: (7+ years of experience on their instrument) This adult, unpaid, volunteer orchestra is open to musicians with an advanced level of experience on their instruments. Regular rehearsals are held on Monday evening, with an additional Wednesday rehearsal a few days before a concert and a Saturday morning dress rehearsal on the day of a concert. Concerts are usually on Saturday evening, sometimes repeated on the following Sunday afternoon or evening.
Prepare at least two contrasting excerpts from the standard orchestral, concerto, or solo literature.

- The first should be slow and expressive with emphasis on rhythmic accuracy, dynamic and tone control, intonation and articulation of coherent musical phrasing;
- The second excerpt should be a light or faster passage with emphasis on technique, rhythmic accuracy, dynamic contrasts, and melodic range of the instrument and articulation of coherent musical phrasing.
- The first should be slow and expressive with emphasis on rhythmic accuracy, dynamic and tone control, intonation and articulation of coherent musical phrasing;
There will be a sight reading portion on the audition, however emphasis will be placed on the prepared excerpts as illustration of the candidate’s commitment to preparation for rehearsals.
